Fall Thoughts

Now that fall is here (although the temps in DC will hit high 80s today!) I once again find myself attracted to richer tones in everything from wall color to accessories. I am thoroughly obsessed with an antique tortoise shell lamp that I picked up at John Rosseli last week.

The pattern makes me want to bundle up and drive through the country to see the leaves turn colors. I always advise clients of this seasonal pitfall. Too often we stand in a chilly room in the middle of winter craving warmth. This is fine as long as we also imagine what it will feel like in that same room in the middle of a summer heat wave. Always keep in mind which colors, textures and fabrics will make the room feel inviting and comfortable year round.  Below are more fabulous tortoise shell finds that make me want to pull out the credit card!

This 19th century tortoise shell box oozes elegance and timelessness—this could fit into the most contemporary or traditional setting.

These contemporary drinking glasses give even the most mundane bar a little something to talk about.

Looking at tortoise shell in fashion always makes me think of the timeless Jackie O sunglasses and fabulous vintage cuffs from the 50s. I have fallen in love with the cuff –I imagine pairing this with a crisp white shirt and dark jeans—a classic look.

And last but not least, Chloe’s take on the iconic Jackie O look—delicious!
